HARRY POTTER MAVEN CHALLENGE

This report was submitted during Maven Analytics' Harry Potter Challenge. The prompt provided was relatively simple, just create a magic report with the data provided.

The data included character dialogs for all 8 movies. Additional information was provided for each movie, chapters, characters, places and spells.

For the design of the report, I wanted to keep it simple. I used the house colors (primary and secondary) where I could. I included a transparent Hogwart image as the background. I included the added images of floating feathers and green lightning bolts that correspond to the spells. Lastly there are some hidden Easter eggs of two wands.

I took a rather simple approach to this report. I looked at the basic stats such as the total number of lines of dialog, chapters, and runtime for each movie. I looked at which places had the most lines of dialog in each movie. Lastly, I analyzed some stats for two spells: levitation charm and a killing curse. 

 

I did however want to analyze more of the spells. I merged the data in Power Query, in which the spell incantation was searched against the lines of dialog. Essentially this was a fuzzy match. This match was hard to get 100% accurate. Some of the dialog was missing specific incantation (ie. Bellatrix killed Sirius black using the killing curse, but the lines of dialog never have her saying the full incantation). Other spells such as Nox would sometimes pair with "no" in dialog. Due to these issues, spells were only part of the analysis. 

 

As a Harry Potter fan, this challenge ended up being a lot of fun.
