MAVEN UNICORN CHALLENGE

One page report created for the Maven Analytics Super Bowl Challenge. The task of the challenge was to illustrate the current landscape of unicorn companies around the globe.

Unicorn companies are those with an evaluation over $1 Billion dollars. 

​

This dataset includes just over 1,000 records and included details on the company's current valuation, total funding, country of origin, industry, select investors, and the years they were founded and became unicorns.

 

For this report design, I wanted to have a little bit more fun toying with the whole "unicorn" theme.  I wanted the background to have a light and airy, almost cotton candy, feel to it. For a little bit of pop, I added a unicorn icon with a watercolor background to the top of the page. Color wise, I stuck to two primary colors: pink and blue, and one secondary color: teal.

For the visualization side of things, I knew I wanted to main focuses to be Valuation and Funding. I also decided to add visuals that provided quick insight into the locations of companies and the years companies became unicorns.

These visualizations helped gather some insights of the current landscape of unicorn companies. Most companies are located on the West and East coasts of the United States. Most companies joined the Unicorn list in 2020, the year seeing the most additions yet. Lastly, Otto Back Healthcare took 98 years to become a Unicorn.
